The Aaron Lewis Foundation Story
When the State of Massachusetts eliminated funding for the R.H. Conwell School in Worthington, MA, musician Aaron Lewis was inspired to do something. The school had served the children of the hill towns in the area since the 1940s and was one of the only community buildings in tiny Worthington. The school closure was devastating to the entire community.
Aaron started his foundation, then called It Takes A Community (ITAC), in July 2010 in an effort to save the school. The foundation provided the bulk of the funding to re-open the public facility as a private community school open to all local students.
The R.H. Conwell experience demonstrated that small communities can help themselves if residents work together and have adequate resources. Under Aaron's leadership, the Aaron Lewis Foundation provides funding and guidance to a wide array of organizations that play a vital role in connecting people within communities throughout New England and beyond.
The Aaron Lewis Foundation supports communities in need throughout New England and beyond. Aaron began with the goal of giving back to struggling communities in the hill towns of Western Massachusetts, where he was born and raised. Our mission and scope continues to expand. We raise funds and support organizations or efforts that:
Strengthen, engage and enrich New England communities
Sustain diminishing public services
Provide assistance to communities in crisis
Support families of veterans on a national level
We share our expertise and provide financial assistance to empower citizens and organizations to take charge of their own community’s future. The Aaron Lewis Foundation works to unite resources and ideas to help people and communities create a better tomorrow.
The Aaron Lewis Foundation is a not for profit, charitable organization formed under Section 501(c)3 of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code. Donations to the Aaron Lewis Foundation are tax-deductible as charitable contributions for US federal income tax purposes.
